LES concerts du futur
“Low-tech” is an approach applied to the creation of objects and systems, as well as to the organization of a more just society that is in balance with ecosystems.
IInitiated by Marius Pibarot, the project is the result of a collaboration between engineers Renaud Deligny, Thomas Verhaag, and Aline Bonacossa, and the musicians of the band Marius and The Needs.
In the spring of 2025, the project “Les Concerts du futur” was launched. The band Marius and The Needs, along with engineers specializing in low-tech solutions, travel by bike to put on concerts, dances, and educational workshops focused on building low-tech objects (eco-friendly, sustainable, and useful technologies) and songwriting. Once they arrive, the bicycles are transformed into generators to power the stage: the audience pedals, and the band plays 100% carbon-free, lively, and joyful music.
The project
There are several possible activities, depending on the preferences and needs of our hosts.
For example, as soon as we arrive, we can cook a meal together with our host team and the local residents, using the low-tech tools we bring with us or that we’ll have built on-site during the workshops we offer (Norwegian pot, solar oven, bicycle blender, rocket stove, etc.). We aim to cook as much as possible with local ingredients, regional specialties, and unsold produce…
This low-tech meal serves as a friendly and joyful introduction to experiencing a glimpse of life in the world of 2040.
All seven of us will arrive by bike, and we’ll need to keep pedaling during the concert to minimize our energy consumption. The audience is also invited to take turns riding our energy-generating bikes to light up the stage and become part of a show from the future—100% low-tech!
There are many other possibilities to explore: since we’re self-sufficient in electricity, we can perform indoors or outdoors—at the foot of homes or out in the fields…
We can wrap up with a folk dance, teach the steps to some group dances, and get everyone’s voices and bodies moving together in harmony.
The mobile bar with its low-tech beer tap will, of course, be there!
Each destination offers an opportunity for a new collaboration with local stakeholders and initiatives so that we can best work together with the community and its residents to shape our efforts.
A perfect beginning
In August 2025, the first edition of the Concerts du Futur was a resounding success! It took place from Le Mans to La Chapelle Saint-Mesmin, near Orléans. The band performed at the LeMansPopFestival, and the entire team arrived three days early to make wallets out of TetraPak cartons and compose a song with children from a recreation center.
We passed through villages we wouldn’t have had the chance to visit if we hadn’t been on bikes. Surprised by the sight of our group (racks, trailers, bikes, musical instruments…), locals who aren’t used to going to concerts and who weren’t familiar with “low-tech” took part in the activities we offered. Thanks to this way of touring, class and political divides faded away for a moment, giving way to meaningful human connections.
What struck us was the simplicity: the simplicity of human connections and interactions, but also of the technical solutions we implemented. An obvious, almost disarming accessibility that gave us the feeling of being useful, of forging connections through concerts, culture, and a resolutely low-tech approach.
Highly Successful Tours
In August 2026, the troupe set out for Anjou region, performing at the low-tech festival L’ouvre-boîte in Chemillé-en-Anjou, as well as in front of a supermarket, at the entrance to the Pig Festival in La Jumellière, and on the streets of Angers and Le Mans.
In the fall of 2026, we’re performing at “L’Estival”, festival in Achères, in the 78 department.
